Vegan MoFo 2013 is just right around the corner in September. For the uninitiated, the Vegan Month of Food is dedicated to writing and sharing about vegan food (at least 20 posts), be it recipes, cooking tips or restaurant reviews. The idea is about vegan outreach and community-building by volume. Hundreds of blogs will partake in the challenge of creating daily content on their respective websites for the entire month while simultaneously engaging with the plethora of content being generated by others.
This year, Early Morning Oats will be participating for the first time! By no means am I vegan (and you do not need to be a vegan to participate) but I do love creating healthy & vegan recipes, and believe in a plant-based diet based on ethical and environmental principles.
Although not strictly necessary to have a theme, I thought it would be more fun and focused to have one. After much brainstorming, I’ve decided on the theme, the A-Z’s of Southeast Asian Classics. Each entry will feature an ingredient or dish from the region based on one letter of the alphabet. For example, C may stand for veganized chicken rice and L for laksa. To veganize heritage favorites may sound improbable, daunting, and even blasphemous to some, but with a little creativity, I believe it’s doable. And because of the forseeable busyness in trying to squeeze out 26 blog posts in one month, I will keep the alphabet to keep things manageable. Some posts may also include product reviews, restaurant reviews, philosophical vegan issues and maybe a giveaway too! I’m hoping that Vegan MoFo will get me exploring my region’s heritage, and also highlight the bold and exciting flavours of Southeast Asian recipes with all of you.
